This double session will provide suggestions for setting up and using iPads in the classroom. The three focal points of this presentation are: 1) the steps to start up a class set of iPads (i.e. Do I need to set up an account for educational use? How do I sync multiple iPads? What is the best way to purchase apps for classroom use? What are some of the benefits and challenges to using iPads in the classroom?), 2) some recommended educational apps (i.e. Which apps can engage my students? Which apps can help me as a teacher?) and 3) using digital textbooks (i.e. What are they? Do I need to buy digital textbooks or can I create my own?). Bringing your own iPad is encouraged, but not required for this workshop.

Destination Imagination (DI), Inc. is an international extraordinary non-profit organization that provides educational programs for students to learn and experience creativity, teamwork and problem solving--the essential 21st century skills that Manitoba schools are longing for. The DI program can simply be used in classes as an activator; and/or it can be formalized as an exceptionally fun educational program in which student teams solve open-ended Challenges and present their solutions at Tournaments (Divisionally, Provincially, and Internationally). From a Business Education standpoint, DI encompasses the Entrepreneurial Spirit. DI combines creativity and logic to drive teams to solve problems and present their solutions. Other skills that are honed by the program include creativity, risk/benefit analysis, teamwork, literacy, communication, problem solving and interpersonal skills. The workshop will, in a practical and FUN manner, describe the program and the different ways it can be used in schools.
