Dragon’s Den is featuring a Winnipeg Based business tonight Oi! Which is part of Cocoon Branding. Kyle is a very good friend of mine, and Jason is a good friend of Chad’s – apparently it is going to be very interesting and entertaining. It is receiving a lot of media attention in Winnipeg. I have been using it as a teaching moment with my students and thought I would pass it on.
Oi is a modular seating system – very cool. If you watch Dragon’s Den it is on tonight on CBC (7pm HD, 8pm in non HD I think!!!)
Here is a link to the article explaining it all on the Chamber of Commerce’s website if you are interested in knowing more……

For those of you who have an iphone and babies, from vimeo, here is a simple but great app (free) to film, basic edit and post. Would also work if we investigate ipads etc.
For those of us who still use the dial phones, just get a box, a pin and go to town.

ANNOUNCEMENT – NEW CANADIAN OLYMPIC BRAND IDENTITY
Dear Olympians,
Today you’re seeing a new face for the Canadian Olympic Team, a refreshed logo and brand. Our primary goal was to shift the emphasis to the Canadian Olympic Team and less on the Committee. Canadians care about the Team and supporting, celebrating and cheering on your performances. As Canadian Olympians you embody excellence and we wanted to match that.
The biggest change is that we created a new Team mark. We also created a new graphic identity and a new typography. The new graphic is vibrant and dynamic, representing Canada's cultural mosaic and the energy of the Canadian Olympic Team.
We invite you to visit the microsite to see the new look and to view a quick video showcasing and describing the new brand work at http://brand.olympic.ca.
We are one team. We are summer and winter sports, 54 sport federations; we are 66 corporate partners; and we are 33 million Canadians that support and cheer on the Canadian Olympic Team.
We wish you continued success, particularly those preparing for Guadalajara 2011 and London 2012.

Hello Nicole,
I am just sending a quick word from Cairo to say hello to you and the gang on the EBIT counsel. Its been pretty crazy here. Cairo is a very interesting place, and certainly the school is no exception. I do enjoy living here for the most part, but there are days when the "3rd world" nature of the country comes out. In any event, the teaching aspect so far has been more or less excellent. My kids are smart and fun, and I only really have one very difficult grade 8 class, but we are working on that slowly.
However, due to the nature of doing a long distance relationship with my fiance I am considering only staying a year. Much of that decision also hinges on whether or not I can find work back in Winnipeg. So I am also email you to simply keep channels of communication open, and asking that if you, or others on EBIT hear of any job openings, that you can fill me in. I will be keeping my eyes on the postings, but any help would be greatly appreciated.
Check out my blog that I am writing for lots of pics and details on my travels: http://marksegyptianadventure.blogspot.com/
Thank you

I was wondering if you could e-mail the following information on our Manitoba High School Investment Competition to the high schools in Pembina Trails School Division.
The HSIC is an opportunity for high school students throughout Manitoba to develop and showcase their entrepreneurial spirit by presenting their business to a panel of local business professionals. The competition is comprised of four components: a written business plan, elevator pitch, trade show, and an oral presentation.
In 2011, nine teams competed in the first HSIC. The competition gave high school students the opportunity to learn what it takes to create a business, while being eligible to win some cool prizes. After completing the competition, students gained a better understanding of business terms and concepts, and discovered what entrepreneurship was all about. The HSIC will take place from April 19-20, 2012 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
This year we are going to offer a $2,000 scholarship, iPads, kobo eReaders, Sky Box at a Goldeyes’ Game, U of M Gym Passes, and many more great prizes!
For more information visit our website: http://www.umanitoba.ca/faculties/management/academic_depts_centres/centres_institutes/entrepreneurship/outreach_programs/1175.htm
If you have any questions/concerns please let me know.

In celebration of Media Literacy Week 2011, Manitoba Education, Manitoba Association of Computing Educators (ManACE), and Manitoba Teachers’ Society (MTS) are inviting Manitoba teachers and students to:
- Think About Digital Citizenship and Social Justice!
This year’s Media Literacy Week theme is Digital Citizenship. In Manitoba we are focusing on social justice and the use of digital media to support action. We call this Digital We! - Share Your Story!
Get involved in the Digital We Community by sharing your story of how your class/group is making a difference in your school, community or world and how you use digital media to support your actions! Create a video, a podcast, a photo essay or any other media project to show how you are starting to “change the world” through digital collaboration.
- Win Prizes!
Each submission into the Digital We Community will be entered into a random draw to win 1 of 6 iPod Touches plus a $25.00 iTunes gift card for your class! Deadline for submissions is March 14, 2012.
Visit Digital We at http://digitalwe.ca/ for more information about how to get involved and to:
- Listen to the Digital We theme song, “It Starts with Me” - created and recorded by grade 4 and 5 students and their vice-principal, Ryan Miller, from Stevenson-Britannia School.
- Share your digital citizenship story and inspire others to take action!
- Find resources, including information about grants for social justice projects, and other links.
